What we do
Orthodox Sardigna
is a non-profit Association of Fellowship, founded to promote events of the
Orthodox tradition, art, and culture in Sardinia.
Orthodox Sardigna
promotes Sardinian and Orthodox culture around the Mediterranean Sea.
The Association
promotes cultural events and trips, guided tours to archaeological and
historical sites, photographic exhibitions, and meetings that highlight
Orthodox and Sardinian traditions and art.
The Association
promotes fellowship and mutual understanding between these traditions, and
celebrates their common identity and cultural heritage. Orthodox Sardigna
promotes the Sardinian language and traditions through meetings, seminars, and
by organizing cultural, historical and archaeological events in various
locations of the island of Sardinia.
Through its
activities, Orthodox Sardigna promotes the awareness and visibility of the
Orthodox tradition, the presence of which in Cagliari is not only age-old but
currently showing signs of renewed vitality, especially during periods of
tourist arrivals.
Orthodox tradition
The Orthodox
tradition has been rooted in the Mediterranean Sea for millennia, in Sardinian
culture and tradition. The Orthodox tradition found fertile ground on the
island, and has grown harmoniously alongside Sardinian traditions. The first
saints to be venerated in Sardinia came from the Greek-Orthodox tradition, and
have been worshipped for millenia on the island.

The many faces of Cagliari, capital of ancient culture in the Mediterranean Sea.
With a litte over
150.000 inhabitants, Cagliari is the capital and beating heart of Sardinia, and
a multifaceted city. Well-known from the glorious past of the Kingdom of
Sardinia, Cagliari today is an important international harbor.
Sardinia entered of
the Byzantine sphere in the Roman era, but, both before and after, was forced
to greet a number of invading empires and powers that all left their traces,
archaeological and others, on the island. Cagliari is a capital of culture,
history, and various arts, languages, and religious traditions that have been
harbored through the ages, without ever erasing the local identity.
Cagliari has many
faces, all of which we will pursue on our various itineraries, discovering the
different sides to this incredible city.
The Byzantines
built the foundations of the city, leaving perennial traces, as a concrete
memory of their presence in Cagliari, this focus-point of remarkable Mediterranean
cultures and history.
